Counsel that reads the fine print so you don't have to.
We are a small Tacoma firm built for owners, developers, and operators who want clear answers, tight contracts, and a lawyer who returns the call. No jargon. No surprises on the invoice.
A contract is a promise written so it holds up when memory fails and money is on the line. We write it that way the first time — and we tell you plainly what it does, what it doesn't, and where the risk actually sits.
Five disciplines. One standard of clarity.
Most clients come to us for one of these and stay for the rest. Each links to the detail.
A deliberate, four-step engagement.
No mystery, no runaway hours. You know the plan and the cost before we begin.
Consultation
A fixed-fee first meeting to understand the matter and tell you, honestly, whether you need a lawyer at all.
Scope & Estimate
A written scope with a flat fee or a capped estimate. You approve it before any billable work starts.
Drafting & Review
We draft, you read a plain-English summary, and we walk every clause that carries real risk.
Close & Counsel
We close the matter and stay on call for the questions that come after the ink dries.
What owners say after the deal closes.
A sample of reviews from business owners across the South Sound.
"They rewrote our operating agreement and a fight we'd been having for two years just… ended. Plain English, fixed fee, and they actually explained what each clause meant."
"Bought a commercial building with their help. Their due-diligence checklist caught an easement that would have cost me a fortune. Worth every dollar."
"I'm not a 'lawyer person,' but Harborline made a partnership buyout feel manageable. No theatrics, no surprise invoice. Just clear advice when I needed it."
"We use them for our leases and our handbook. They flag the Washington-specific stuff most firms miss and they answer email like real humans. Highly recommend."
Answered before you ask.
If yours isn't here, the consultation is the place to ask it.
Q1Do you charge for the first consultation?
The initial consultation is a flat $200, credited toward your matter if you engage us. We use it to understand the situation and tell you honestly whether you need a lawyer — sometimes you don't, and we'll say so.
Q2Do you bill hourly or flat-fee?
Both, depending on the work. Formations, contracts, leases, and estate documents are usually flat-fee so you know the cost up front. Disputes and complex transactions are billed hourly against a capped, written estimate you approve before we start.
Q3What size of business do you work with?
Mostly owner-operated companies and closely held businesses — from a two-person startup to a 150-employee operation. If your matter is better served by a large firm, we'll tell you and point you in the right direction.
Q4Are you only in Tacoma?
Our office is on Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma, and we serve clients across the South Sound — Pierce County and the greater Puget Sound region. Most meetings can be held by video if that's easier for you.
Q5How fast will I hear back?
We aim to return every consultation request within two business days, and active-matter calls within 48 hours. You'll always know which attorney is handling your file — no rotating cast.
Bring us the fine print.
Tell us what you're signing, building, buying, or untangling. We'll tell you what it really says — and what to do about it.
